But, they also live at lower elevations in the northern countries of the range. Thanks to their thick fur with hairs between 5 and 12 cm (2.0 and 4.7 inches) long, they inhabit alpine and subalpine regions, ranging from eastern Afghanistan, the Himalayas, and the Tibetan Plateau, to southern Siberia, Mongolia, and western China, at elevations from 3,000 to 4,500 meters (9,800 to 14,800 feet).
